Gabe Howard is a professional public speaker, award-winning writer, and award-winning activist as well a person living with bipolar and anxiety disorders.
Diagnosed in 2003, he has made it his mission to put a human face on mental illness, confronting the fear, discrimination, and stigmatization people diagnosed with these illnesses often face.
Gabe has been the recipient of multiple prestigious awards in the mental health community. His writing has been featured in a number of health sites online. He has worked with several respected advocacy organizations and worked with hundreds of families and individuals.
He currently hosts The Psych Central Show Podcast sponsored by PsychCentral.com, writes for bipolar Magazine, and is the author of the blog, Don't Call Me Crazy.

The PEER Center is a consumer-operated drop-in wellness, recovery and support center operated by members of the peer community (people in recovery from mental illness, addiction, and/or trauma).
Operational since January 2007, our mission is to provide a safe place where individuals receive respect, encouragement, and hope that supports and strengthens their recovery with mental illness, addictions, and/or trauma.
As Director of Development and Marketing it is my responsibility to market services, engage the public, and run all external events including the annual fundraiser.
The department I head applies for grants, educates the public about our services, as well as provide education about mental health, addiction, and trauma related issues.
We are tasked by the state of Ohio (Ohio Mental Health and Addiction Services) to oversee The Certified Ohio Peer Supporter program for the entire state.

My responsibilities included educating the public about mental illness, running the consumer support offerings, and leading the NAMIWalks fundraiser in Columbus, Ohio to its three most profitable years to date (2011, 2012, 2013).
NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.
NAMIWalks across the country support the mission-driven work of our NAMI organizations, who provide support, education and advocacy for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.
